Description

This is a recreation of the fishing system from "Animal Crossing: New Horizons".

Controls

  • WASD / Arrows: Movement
  • Shift: Sprint / Run
  • E Key: Cast / Reel In Fishing Line

Lecture Content

What's New?

  • The fish has been retextured in order to look more like a fish and less of a black colored sphere.
  • When fishing, the fish can now observe (or look at) the bait when it's within close proximity.
  • The spawner now functions as intended without any more errors.
  • The catch system had been fully implemented. Now when the player catches a fish the following occurs;
    • The camera pans towards the player's face.
    • The player showcases what fish they've caught.
    • UI pops up on the screen to notify to the player what type of fish they've caught.
  • There are now 3 different types of fish that the player can catch.

Creative Requirements

  • When implementing the UI system I went ahead and attempted to match the colors of the original UI with the recreated one.
  • The fishes that the player shows to the camera are the sprites of the original ones taken directly from the reference game.
  • I implemented a randomizer that randomizes what fish can be summoned every 10 seconds and where it should be summoned.
  • The player now supports arms used to hold the fishing rod and any fish they've caught.
  • I also attempted to time the fishing catch time with the one from the reference game.
