This is a recreation of the fishing system from "Animal Crossing: New Horizons".

Controls

  • WASD / Arrows: Movement
  • Shift: Sprint / Run
  • E Key: Cast / Reel In Fishing Line
  • R Key: Restart

Lecture Content

Cover Sequence

Here are the steps towards how the fishing system / sequence is set up and how it is completed.

  1. You first have to move your character to a nearby pond before you can starting fishing.
  2. Cast your fishing line by the nearest shadow (which represents the silhouette of the fish).
  3. Wait for the fish to start circling the bait, reeling in early will result in you not obtaining the fish.
  4. When the fish starts circling the bait, then you're allowed to reel in which automatically gives you the fish.

Creative Requirements

  • During development of this game despite the main focus of the cover being the fishing system, I took it upon myself to add in the player system from the game too.
  • Alongside the player system, I also gave the game some color so it feels less white or textureless.
  • Near the end of development, I gave the fish a rotating system in order to signal to the player when the fish is ready to reeled in.
